WOMEN FOR ARMY
RECRUITING CONDITIONS & PAY. HEADQUARTERS STATEMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Women may now be enlisted for service in the Army, the personnel required to be recruited from the New Zealand Women’s War Service Auxiliary. This information is contained in a circular issued by Army Headquarters, which states that such enlistments may be taken in accordance with the authorised establishment 1 . It is emphasised that the provisional selection of personnel required by the Army will be in the N.Z.W.W.S.A. (Army Home Defence Division). The age for enlistment will be from 18 to 45. Before being enlisted, the personnel will be medically 'examined and must be passed for duty. Pay and allowances will be: Supervisor: Qualified, 7s; unqualified, 6s 6d. Sergeant: Qualified, 6s; unqualified, 5s 6d. Corporal: Qualified, 5s 9d; unqualified, 5s 3d. Lance-corporal: Qualified, 5s 6d; unqualified, ss. Private: Qualified, ss; unqualified, 4s 6d. The pay will be free of taxation. Where rations and quarters are provided, the pay will be subject to a deduction of Is Id a day for quarters. Where rations and quarters are not provided, a subsistence allowance of 2s 6d a day will be payable. On appointment, a uniform allowance of £2O will! be payable and there will be an upkeep allowance of £lO a year. Leave will be given up to l 8 days per annum. The hours of employment will normally be 44 a week, but extra duties may be required according to the exigencies of the service.
