HOME GUARD
SIGNAL PLATOON TRAINING. During the weekend the Signal Platoon of Headquarters Company of the Mastertoil Home Guard inspected and handled signal equipment. There was a 100 per cent roll call of the Home Guard and under the capable instruction of Lieutenant Graham and his four instructors a profitable time was spent. Portable wireless sets inspected were most interesting, their working and method of use being fully demonstrated. When time was up, it was with regret that the Home Guard signallers had to fall in, words of appreciation regarding the equipment and instruction being heard on all sides. As a further demonstration a wireless set was put “on the air.” A short; message was sent out and members of the Home Guard who had short-wave wireless receiving sets were able to listen in. The clarity and volume of the message (confirmed by other reports) was wonderful and the speaker’s voice was easily recognisable.
