CRIPPLED CHILDREN
MEETING OF WAIRARAPA EXECUTIVE. MANY ACTIVITIES REPORTED UPON. The hope that members, in spite of many additional calls being made on their time by war conditions, would still be able to devote their energies towards ensuring a successful year’s work on behalf of crippled children, was expressed by Mr E. M. Hodder, chairman of the Wairarapa branch of the Crippled Children Society at the last meeting of the executive. Also present were Mrs H. E. Pither, Messrs S. L. P. Free, R. C. Drummond, L. Robinson, Mrs Kilgour (Welfare Officer) and Mr H. A. R. Dunderdale (secretary). Letters of thanks and appreciation were received from a number of parents and children for Christmas gifts donated by the society. The welfare officer’s report showed that during the month 12 homes had been visited, 26 cases attended to, five visits paid to hospital and 161 telephone calls made. One child had been operated on in December and was progressing very well. The garden party given by the Girl Guides had been most successful and the children present greatly enjoyed the outing. > Appreciation was expressed to the Rotary Club for arranging transport. Several children from Wellington had been found accommodation in the country for the Christmas holidays and (had returned home very much better ’in health. !■ Special shoes were being provided for three children requiring them and (additional treatment and operations (were arranged for other children. Positions had been obtained for two children and one was reported to be doing very well. Inquiries regarding additional education were being made in respect to a child unable to attend school. Accounts totalling £l9 12s Id were passed.
