MAURICEVILLE

HOME GUARD AND E.P.S. ENTHUSIASM DISPLAYED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Home Guard and E.P.S. paraded as usual last night, considerable enthusiasm being displayed. In addition to general instruction, the men were taken on night manoeuvres over the local hills, the work being interesting and instructing. The local E.P.S. held a meeting last evening in the Mauriceville East Hall, when several new enrolments were made. There was a general discussion on the necessity for being prepared for any emergency, and those present certainly appreciated their responsibilities. It is believed that in the near future the E.P.S. will be placed on a very strong footing and will be a particularly well organised unit. School Activities. The local school has opened after the |iolidays. During the vacation many children worked hard at gathering ergot and their effort should be much appreciated. Women's Division Library. The library of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union is to be made available to readers on Monday evenings and should be much appreciated. Red Cross Society. At a meeting of the committee of the Red Cross Society recently it was decided to reopen the Red Cross shop at an early date. A special appeal is being made for old linen for hospital purposes and donations may be handed to Mrs J. W. Milner.
