COUNTY AFFAIRS

S. WAIRARAPA COUNCIL MEETING AT CARTERTON. APPOINTMENT OF WARDENS. ■ s (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South* County Council was held at Carterton today, Cr. F. Court presiding. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £7513 7s 4d. The traffic inspector, Mr Ancell, reported that he had tested 26 drivers for licences. Eight breaches of the regulations had occurred. The sanitary inspector (Mr F. Ellers) reported that the health of the county was satisfactory. Mr W. Rayner wrote in connection with the water races on his property. It was decided that the chairman and councillors visit the spot and report to the next meeting. The county balance-sheet for 1941 was adopted. Mr Rex Porter, acting-manager for Gordon Hughan, Ltd., wrote in regard to the gas producer plant for county truck. The clerk was instructed to order a truck of fuel from, Auckland for use of the producer plant, which is to be attached to a county truck immediately. Cr L. S. Gallon was appointed to represent the county at the meeting to discuss the entertainment of soldiers. Mr H. J. McKenzie was appointed chief warden and all councillors were for black-out purposes in the Waiyarapa South County.
