HOUSE OF COMMONS DEBATE
Mr Churchill Seeking Vote of Confidence DISPOSITION OF BRITISH FORCES DEVELOPMENTS IN VARIOUS THEATRES (British Official Wireless.) A (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) ! RUGBY, January 27. Mr Churchill opened his eagerly-awaited speech in the House of Commons by stating that he proposed to ask for a vote of confidence. There were times in the life of every Government, he said, when such things were necessary. Anybody who had read the newspapers of the country during the past three weeks would see that there was considerable discussion on the conduct of the war. When Rudolph Hess flew to Britain he firmly believed that he had only to get in touch with certain influential circles and the Churchill clique would be thrown out of power and a Government set up with which Hitler could negotiate a magr nanimous peace.
