IN THE PHILIPPINES
INTENSE JAPANESE RAID ON PORT LITTLE SERIOUS DAMAGE. ENEMY TANKER LOST. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.10 a.m.) RUGBY, January 26. A United States War Department communique states that in the Philippine theatre the fighting on Batan Peninsula is confined to relatively unimportant skirmishes on the west coast and in the vicinity of Subic Bay. Delayed reports advise that the city of Cebu, in the Philippines, suffered from an intense air raid on Wednesday last. Eighteen enemy bombers participated. One small inter-island boat was sunk in Cebu Harbour. No other serious damage was inflicted. It has been determined that a large Japanese tanker which was set on fire by our bombers last Tuesday off Jolo ultimately sank.
