U.S.A. TROOPS
ARRIVAL IN NORTHERN IRELAND ANNOUNCEMENT MADE FROM WASHINGTON. FIRST TO REACH BRITISH ISLES. LONDON, January 26. The arrival of United States troops in Northern Ireland is announced in Washington by Mr Henry Stimson, United States Secretary of War. The size of the force and other details were not given. These are the first American forces to arrive in the British Isles since the start of the war. An official statement from Northern Ireland states that there was slight enemy air activity this afternoon and the defences went into action. MAJOR=GENERAL HARTLE IN COMMAND OF TROOPS. Stimson, announcing that United Slates troops had arrived in Northern Ireland, said they were commanded by Major General Hartle.
