Shouts of “Boycott Gandhi!”, stonethrowing and the waving of black flags greeted Mr Gandhi when he addressed a public meeting at Nagpur. The crowd complained that Gandhi, who was once a foremost champion of the untouchables, was no longer interested in them. Mr Gandhi replied that he was not afraid of stone-throwing, but rebuked the demonstrators for hurting peaceful members of the crowd. Mr Gandhi left protected by a cordon.
