Word has been received that Driver A. V. Benfell, of Masterton, is missing and believed to be a prisoner of war. Lieutenant F. T. Bennett, . son of the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett. Bishop of Aotearoa, has been appointed to the rank of captain.
At a recent examination held at the C. and A. Ladies’ Baths, Masterton, Miss E. Donald awarded resuscitation certificates to Misses D. Junkei, L. Junker and H. Brenkley.
The death has occurred, in her 86th year, of Miss Mary Jane Walker, of Auckland, who attracted much public attention nearly a year ago by contributing pictures of very high quality to the Auckland Society of Arts-’-.annual exhibition, though she had not taken up painting seriously till past 80 years of age.
The death has occurred of Mr Kenneth Berry Crombie, a pioneer of the Nuhaka district. Mr Crombie purchased a sheep farm at Opoutama and farmed there for several years. After selling the farm at Opoutama, he became harbourmaster at Waikokopu, and in 1911, made his residence at Nuhaka. Mr Crombie was secretary of the Nuhaka Dairy Company for 32 years..
