OVERTURE TO CHINA
MADE BV THE JAPANESE PREMIER HOPE OF DETACHING HER FROM ALLIES. OFFER OF OPEN ARMS WELCOME. (Received This Day, 9.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, January 23. According to the Tokio radio, the Prime Minister, General Tojo, in a speech in Parliament today, indicated that he had launched a strong peace move, designed to detach China from the united nations. General Tojo deplored the British and American influence in China. He indicated that all past faults would be forgotten, and said that Chungking would be received with open arms “if it only rectifies mistaken ideas.” The Foreign Minister, Mr S. Togo, told Parliament today that, at the very outset of the Pacific war, Japan received assurances from Russia that she would observe the neutrality pact to the, letter.
