MAGISTRATE’S COURT
FORTNIGHTLY MASTERTON SITTING THEFT OF A BICYCLE. 5 TWO MONTHS’ IMPRISONMENT IMPOSED. The fortnightly sitting of the Masterton Magistrate’s Court was held this morning before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M. Arnold Stephen Culley, alias Harold Stephen Culley, alias Ronald Charles Rogers, was charged with the theft of a bicycle at Masterton on January 21, valued at £5, the property of Cameron James Douglas. The accused elected to be dealt with summarily and pleaded guilty. Senior Sergeant G. A. Doggett stated that the bicycle was taken from a private parking area behind the W.F.C.A. Ltd. and the next morning the owner saw the accused riding the bicycle at Opaki. In view of accused’s previous list of convictions, the Magistrate imposed a sentence of two months’ imprisonment. Two men, whose names were ordered to be suppressed were charged with having wilfully damaged a fence at 79 Dixon Street, the property of Henry Norman, and valued at £3. The Magistrate imposed a fine of £1 with 10s costs each and the defendants were ordered to make good the damage. On a charge of having assaulted Chung Lung Kee on Christmas Day, Francis Rimene was fined £3, with 10s costs.
Richard Mclsaac, for having allowed two cows to wander on the Tinui-An-nedale Road on December 5, was fined £1 with costs 10s. The information was laid by Inspector W. G. Milne. On a charge of having driven an unlicensed motor car on November 22, Joseph James Pay ton was fined £3 and costs. For having no warrant of fitness defendant was fined £1 and costs. Inspector Milne prosecuted. For having failed to render military service by being absent from a parade without lawful excuse, John West Asplit was fined £l, with costs 13s.
