AWARD TO ROMMEL
FOR “DEFENSIVE VICTORY IN AFRICA.” AGAINST FAR SUPERIOR ENEMY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. 11.25 a.m.) LONDON, January 21. A Berlin message says Hitler has awarded General Rommel the oak leaf with swards, equivalent to a Knight Cross of the Order of the Iron Cross, “in recognition of his defensive victory in North Africa against a far superior enemy, whereby he frustrated British and American intentions.”
