IVOW DETAINED IN SOUTH AFRICA. SUSPICION OF SUBVERSIVE ACTIVITIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.10 p.m.) CAPE TOWN, January 21. Four hundred policemen are now detained on suspicion of subversive activities. The Minister of Justice, the Hon C. Steyn, declared that a smashing blow had been dealt against the subversive movement. Mass arrests followed the discovery of plots otage at goldmines and war industries. Military and civil guards are replacing the arrested men. It is expected that the purge will be extended to other Government departments.
