OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
SOLDIERS’ CLUB WANTED IN CARTERTON (To the Editor.) Sir, —The need for a club room for the benefit of soldiers is very evident in Carterton at the present time, and it is surprising that the powers that be have not interested themselves in this direction. In most other towns there is a meeting place for the boys in khaki, a place where they can see the daily newspapers, interest themselves in books, a place in which they can have somewhere to write home or to friends in other parts, a- place in which they could play card games, draughts, quoits, and at times be entertained by citizens. There are many residents who would gladly find the wherewithal to establish such a place as is here suggested, and it is felt that the majority of the boys would appreciate a move in this direction. It seems that if a start were made by oux’ patriotic committee, or even by some of the women’s organisations, help would readily be forthcoming from the public generally. Trusting somebody will make a move, I feel sure the project will soon be an established fact — Yours, etc., INTERESTED. Carterton, January 19.
