Important Allied decisions relating to the defence of New Zealand and Australia, just made, can be regarded as advancing a further stage a plan for democratic cohesion in the Pacific. Mr Curtin stated that he could not, for strategic reasons, give details of the decisions but emphasised that they brought with a maximum obligation on Australia to play its part in ensuring its own security.
