ARMY COMMAND
NEW APPOINTMENT MADE FOR INDIA GENERAL SIR A. F. HARTLEY. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 1.15 p.m.) RUGBY, January 16. The appointment is announced of General Sir A. F. Hartley to be com-mander-in-chief in India (and a member of' the Governor-General's Executive Council), in success to General Sir Archibald Wavell. LieutenantGeneral E. L. Morris also has been appointed to a' position in India. These are war time appointments the duration of which depend upon the military situation. General Hartley has been General Officer Commanding-in-Chief in the Northern Command in India since 1940 and between 1933-36. He was Director of Military Operations and Intelligence in India. His wife is an Australian.
Lieut.-General Morris was Director of Staff Duties at the War Office at the outbreak of war; previously he was Deputy Director of Military operations and Intelligence in India where his Chief was General Hartley.
