LAUNCHED IN TAGANROG AREA
Supported by Large Formations of Tanks OFFICIAL GERMAN NEWS AGENCY ADMISSION LONDON, January 16. The official German news agency reports that Soviet forces, supported by large formations of tanks, have launched an offensive in the region of Taganrog. Taganrog is the point reached by the Germans after their recent rout at Rostov. A Soviet communique states that Russian troops continue to advance and break the enemy’s resistance. In several sectors the enemy launched counter-attacks but these were repulsed with heavy loss. During yesterday 45 enemy planes were destroyed. Fourteen Russian planes were lost.
