Mr J. Bellshaw, of Pongaroa, is at present an inmate of a private hospital in Pahiatua.
Mr and Mrs L. McCabe, of Wellington, are the guests of Mr and Mrs S. Vosper, of Pongaroa.
Mr E. J. Reid, Pownall Street, Masterton, has received word by cable that his son-in-law, Pte. Nelson Rogers, is safe and well in the Middle East. Mrs P. Fraser, wife of the Prime Minister, is still a patient in the Lewisham Hospital, Wellington. She is making good progress towards recovery.
Mr David Allen, Wellington, has been appointed a member of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. He is the representative of the stock and station agents.
Mrs H. C. D. Somerset, Feilding, was appointed by the senate of the Univer - sity of New Zealand yesterday as its second representative on the Council of Adult Education.
The appointment of Brigadier W. H. Cunningham, C.8.E., D. 5.0., V.D., as general officer commanding in Fiji, with the temporary rank of MajorGeneral while holding such appointment, is announced in the Gazette published last evening. He relinquishes the appointment of Commander, Sth Brigade Group.
