POLICY VIRTUALLY SUSPENDED foA duration of war. ADMISSION OF ASIATIC . ' REFUGEES. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.25 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The War Cabinet has virtually suspended the White Australia policy for the duration of the war. This action was taken to safeguard certain refugees from countries overrun by Japan. The Government decided to admit under certain conditions a limited number of European alien women and children and Eurasian and Chinese women and children from special areas. Those unable to pay their own way will be brought to Australia and maintained at the Government’s expense. Permission to come to Australia will also be granted to some Chinese men of non-rnilitary age who are able to support themselves and their families.
