REDUCED LIGHTING

PROPOSALS FOR MASTERTON AND DISTRICT.

MEETING BEING HELD TONIGHT.

Reduced lighting is to be brought into effect in Masterton and district. The reductions, it is understood, will apply to all sections of the community. A meeting of district borough and county representatives, power board officials, the police and tradesmen’s representatives is to be held in Masterton tonight to decide the course of action to be taken.

Already some steps have been taken in Masterton to reduce the lighting glare. The vapour street lights have been replaced by ordinary bulbs and neon signs are no longer in use at night. It is probable that householders will be called upon to use their window blinds and to blackout at least one room so that they can carry on ordinary duties in the event of an alarm. A complete blackout of the town and district is not anticipated to be considered likely.
