SALE AT FEILDING. SATISFACTORY TONE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, January 9. A very satisfactory tone showed itself at the Feilding yards today when the first sale of the New Year was held. Only a moderate-sized yarding was on offer, but the stock were mostly in good condition and there was no lack of competition. Quotations: — Fat sheep: Mutton held firm at fairly high prices, particularly wethers and hoggets. Low condition ewes were backward in price. Extra prime wethers made from 21s lOd to 22s 4d, prime 20s, unfinished 18s Id to 18s lOd, extra prime ewes 10s Id to Ils 4d, prime 8s 3d to 10s Id, unfinished 5s Id to 7s lOd, extra prime maiden ewes 16s to 20s, prime hoggets 20s 7d to 21s 4d. Store sheep: The market was sound for good stores and a fairly substantial entry of wether hoggets sold readily- 7 Store cattle: There was a sound demand for good conditioned run cattle with prices well up to those of the closing sales last year. Fat cattle: Beef met quite a demand, with a not very well finished yarding offering. A.A. cows, prime, £8 2s 6d to £9 2s 6d; ex-dairy cows, £3 7s 6d to £4 12s 6d; light prime heifers, £6 17s 6d; Jersey bullocks, £7 2s 6d; vealers, £1 10s to £2 10s. Dairy cattle: Very few dairy lines were on offer, poor quality cows selling from £4 12s to £5 10s. Pigs: Weaners, 14s to 20s; slips, 24s to 28s; stores, 335; sows, 20s to 655.
