LABOUR POOLING
IN INDUSTRIES AFFECTED BV MOBILISATION URGED BY WELLINGTON COMMITTEE. TO MAINTAIN OUTPUT & PREVENT HARDSHIP. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The pooling of key labour resources, in industries not directly concerned with the war effort, was urged in a statement issued by the Wellington Manpower Committee, which was of opinion that, with the demands already made by the December 15 and January 10 mobilisations and the pending call-up of January 20, pooling along the lines suggested was absolutely essential, not only to maintain the output of civilian goods, but to prevent hardship and possible loss of livelihood to thQ employers affected by the mobilisation, while their competitors, with employees outside the present and pending mobilisations,' were not affected. The committee had already indicated to appellant employers the desirability, in their own interests and those of the community, of some such co-operative scheme, and since then there have been announcements of the adoption by some business groups of the type of scheme it had in mind.
