NEW PROOF

OF COURAGEOUS DANISH RESISTANCE TO TYRANNICAL GERMAN POWER. KING’S NEW YEAR MESSAGE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January 7. Further proof of the courageous resistance of the small, helpless Danish people to the tyrannical German power, is seen in King Christian’s New Year message, saying that Danes at home and outside Denmark all look forward to the day when the Danish flag will fly again over Denmark. The “Manchester Guardian” states that when the King was asked to pass anti-Jewish laws and he made it known he would rather abdicate, there is no doubt he spoke for the temper of his people. A demonstration after the signing of the Axis manifesto by the pro-Nazi Foreign Minister was one sign of that temper. Another is a New Year message sent by the Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs, with its strong praise for democratic institutions. Denmark has displayed in its history some of the best virtues of democracy, and the people will be neither cowed nor bribed into accepting new principles.
