The Te Aroha Jockey Club has decided to hold a one-day meeting on February 28. TURF TOPICS The Thames Jockey Club, which proposed to hold a one-day meeting on January 24, has received advice that the course will be required for other purposes. The club may seek a change of venue. The Matamata Racing Club has decided to continue with the meeting listed for February 7, but it will apply to the New Zealand Racing Conference for permission to reduce the stakes by £5OO. This will no doubt be the forerunner of a general move toward stakes reduction till affairs become more settled and the outlook brighter. , , T The secretary of the Canterbury Jockey Club, Mr F. T. H. Bell, has been called for service under the general mobilisation order, and the Taranaki secretary, Mr C. B. Webster, will also shortly be donning the uniform. Mr C. R. F. Tilley, the Stratford secretary, has been serving practically from the start of hostilities.
