CHARTER RATES

REDUCTION IN UNITED STATES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.! WASHINGTON January 4. The Government Maritime Commission has ordered a considerable reduction in charter rates for United States and foreign cargo ships and tankers to take effect on January 20. The present maximum time rates are based on 4-1 dollars per deadweight ton for a 12-knot cargo vessel or 10-knot tanker of 10,000 tons or more, while the new scale is 4 dollars 25 cents per deadweight ton for all 10-knot vessels of 10,000 tons or more.
