NEW APPROACH

TO PROBLEM OF CANCER REPORTED IN AMERICA VITAMIN AND CHEMICAL ELEMENTS. (By Telegi'aph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.45 p.m.) WASHINGTON, January 5. An entirely new approach to the problem of cancer was reported by Dr. Maurice Land! at the Society of American Bacteriologists’ annual meeting. He said the normal cellular growth ’was based on a delicate balance in the body between the recently discovered and most potent growth vitamin biotin and a chemical compound named avidin, which has not yet been isolated, but which destroys surplus biotin. Lack of avidin or excess of biotin seemingly causes a pathological cellular growth, probably cancer. In several cases, after an injection of avidin, cancerous symptoms in test animals entirely ceased.
