Substitute Fuel.

The adage “necessity is the mother of invention” is being placed to the' test by many enterprising motorists as a result of the petrol restrictions. Substitute fuel, such as kerosene, benzoline and deisel oil, is being put to good use by many motorists. The effect on the engines, however, remains to be seen. Removal of Street Trees. The removal of every second street tree growing in Perry Street has been decided on by the Masterton Borough Council. It is stated that the trees are too close and in consequence make, the Street at night too dark. The usual practice nowadays is to plant trees at least a chain apart. Those in Perry Street which were planted about forty years ago, are about half-a-chain apart. Tin Hare Racing Plant. As Memorial Park is required for other purposes, the Wairarapa Coursing Club is faced with the removal of its tin hare racing plant, which was recently installed in the park. There is some prospect that Rugby Park may be available for tin hare racing. The plumpton at Akura is considered too far from town, now that petrol restrictions are in force. Club members are meeting this week to decide on what action to take.
