IN EUROPE AND PACIFIC BRITISH WRITER’S VIEW. REAL DISASTER FOR GERMANY IN PROSPECT. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day. 1.5 p.m.) LONDON, January 4. The ultimate defeat of Japan, despite what Australia thinks, depends chiefly on what happens in Europe in the next few months, says Mr John Gordon in the “Sunday Express.” “I have a profound conviction that great things are on the eve of happening,” Mr Gordon adds. “This Russian triumph holds in it for Germany the seeds of real disaster. If we under-esti-mated Japan, we may also be underestimating the growing peril of the Germany army and the reaction developing in the German nation. It would be folly to set our hopes too high when we do not know all the facts, but M. Stalin, who does know all facts, is crowing like a cockerel. So far M. Stalin has not been far wrong in his judgments.”
