Mr and Mrs J. Bird, Renall Street, Masterton, are staying with Mr and Mrs R. Pilmer, Whareama. Miss Thelma Major, Upper Plain, is visiting her sister, Mrs A. Rutherford, Invercargill. Mrs O. M. McKenzie and family, College Street, Masterton, are staying at Paraparaumu Beach. Mrs John Lampen, who has been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs T. Jordan, Lansdowne, has returned to Auckland.

Miss Ruth Hindley, Cambridge Terrace, Masterton, is spending a few days with Miss Valerie Jackson, Carterton.

The Rev. Selwyn A. Grave, formerly of Oamaru, has been appointed chaplain (Church of England) in the New Zealand Forces.

Pipe-Major Murdo Mackenzie, of Masterton, and pipe-major of the Wairarapa College Pipe Band, was successful in. winning two points prize cups for piping at the Waimarino Caledonian Society’s gathering on New Year’s Day.

The death has occurred at Hastings of Mr Herbert Linyard, who was born in Oldham, Lancashire, England, in 1892. Arriving in New Zealand in 1910 he was for about five years farming near Stratford. Later he went to Wellington where he was employed in various Government departments. About 15 years ago he took up his residence at Hastings. Since then most of his time has been spent as an insurance agent, though in recent months he was engaged as a clerk in the Army office.

Mr James William Henderson, Karori, died on Thursday, at the age of 84 years. He was a prominent churchman and for nearly 40 years was a member of the Anglican General Synod and the Wellington Diocesan Synod. For many years, he was diocesan trustee of Wellington, a trustee and governor of Marsden School, treasurer of the Anglican Board of Missions, and president of the Anglican Boys’ Home Society. At the time of his death, he was an honorary canon of the cathedral church of St. Paul, and president of the Wellington City Mission.
