Germans were never notorious foi a sense of humour. “France” tells a story of an article published in the “National Socialiste” of September 13 appealing for subscriptions to the publication. At the end of the article there was a list of prizes offered according to the number of new subscriptions obtained by readers. For three subscriptions the prize was a book, ioi seven subscriptions, a book also, for 33 subscriptions a black shirt, and for 40 subscriptions, a copy of “Mem. Kampf”—or a pair of trousers!
