MINE DISASTER
SIX MEN DEAD & FORTY-FOUR ENTOMBED HOPES OF SOME BEING SAVED. ACCIDENT IN STAFFORDSHIRE PIT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, Noon.) LONDON, January 1. Six miners are dead and 44 entombed, following on an explosion in the Sneyd Colliery, in Staffordshire. Rescue teams, for which a thousand miners from Sneyd and surrounding pits volunteered, are toiling to reach the entombed men. It is thought that some may be rescued alive.
