AXIS INTRIGUES

VIGOROUS ACTION TAKEN IN URUGUAY. MORE THAN THIRTY CONCERNS RAIDED. NEW YORK, December 31. An active Nazi-Fascist front in Uruguay is believed to have been effectively crushed as a result of more than 30 raids which were made yesterday on Axis-controlled concerns. The Transocean . German propaganda news agency was raided and books were confiscated. The evidence showed that Transocean provided its news service free to all Montevideo newspapers and broadcasters, and it received nearly 2000 dollars a month from Germany. It is officially disclosed that documents which were seized in a raid against the Fascist headquarters revealed the existence of a military Axis organisation in Uruguay under the command of Rome and named the i “Tenth Alpini Regiment.”
