MAJOR-GENERAL FREYBERG CONGRATULATIONS CABLED BY GOVERNMENT. HONOUR WELL MERITED. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, January 1. His Majesty, in his New Year honours list, has appointed Major-General Bernard Cyril Freyburg, commanding the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire. The following message was sent last night by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, to Major-General Sir B. C. Freyberg. V.C., C. 8., C.M.G., D. 5.0., K.C.B.E.:— “Heartiest congratulations from members of the Government and myself on your well merited knighthood Which will, I know, afford the greatest pleasure and satisfaction to the officers and men under your command and also to the people of this Dominion. Kindest regards.”
