RESTORATION TO VICHY. DEMANDED BY AMERICAN GOVERNMENT. NEW YORK, December 31. The British and Canadian Governments are about to consent with great reluctance to a demand by the State Department that the islands of Si Pierre and Miquelon be restored to Vichy and the Free French naval forces ousted, says the Washington correspondent of the New York “Post. This will be a bitter blow to the British, because they have long despised Vichy and they only gave way regarding the shipments of oil, food and other supplies to French North Africa because the State Department was adamant about it.
