WORKING HOURS
POSITION AT WAINGAWA I . ■ — I DECISION OF BOARD MEN. OPERATIONS DURING HOLIDAY PERIOD. The decision of a section of the men employed at the Waingawa FreezingWorks in respect to hours of work was made, it is stated, by the men on the slaughtering board. It appears that for a period recently these men have been working an extra half hour a day. At a meeting held this week, however, they are said to have agreed that the situation did net warrant the extra half-hour’s work daily and it was decided not to work the extra half hour and to revert to an eight-hour day.
Another matter at present being considered by the men employed at the works relates to work over the New Year holiday period. Originally, it is reported, it was intended that there should bp no work after Wednesday, aS Thursday was New Year’s Day and Friday had been agreed upon by both carties as a holiday. A request was then made, it is stated, for the men to work on Friday but this was refused. In view of this attitude, it is stated, the men have now been asked to wtrk until 5 p.m. today (New Year’s and on Saturday morning. In the orjli* nary course no work would be done on Saturday morning.
