Word has been received in Masterton from the Middle East that Sergeant Wallie Hart is safe and well. Mi’ and Mrs T. Newland, of Lansdowne, have received advice that their son, Private “Wick” Newland is safe and well. Mr A. L. Cameron has been appointed town clerk of Geraldine. He was formerly an officer of the Government Audit Office. Mrs R. Y. Boyes, Masterton, received advice this morning that her son, Driver P. Boyes, who’ is on active service in the Middle East, is safe and well. Mr G. F. Knapp, Perry Street, Masterton, will celebrate his seventyseventh birthday tomorrow. Mr Knapp has been verger at St Matthew’s Church, Masterton, for 19 years. Major A. H. Bartlett, who has been in charge of the Salvation Army Corps in Hamilton for several years, has been transferred to take charge in Dunedin. Major C. Lee, of Invercargill, will replace Major Bartlett in Hamilton. News has been received of the movements of the London Missionary Society’s representatives in the Gilbert Islands. The Revs. G. H. Eastman and A. L. Sadd have chosen to stay among their people during Japanese occupation. Mrs Eastman and Miss Pateman have been The Rev. and Mrs J. H. Spivey, who have been on furlough, have not yet returned, and will no doubt remain in Australia.
