BOTTLES STOLEN
COLLECTED FOR HOME GUARD. FOR MAKING OF “MOLOTOV COCKTAILS.” A sneak thief’s action in taking some hundred wine bottles collected by members of the Masterton Home Guard for the making of ‘‘Molotov cocktails” and stored on the parking area adjacent to Messrs T. Wagg & Co's garage, was strongly condemned by Mr George Wagg today. Mr Wagg said that it appeared that some people failed to realise that there was a war on. The Home Guard wanted at least 6,000 bottles to make “Molotov cocktails,” in readiness for use against enemy tanks in case of an invasion. Although the response made—only a hundred or so bottles were received—was bad enough, someone had stolen the bottles from the depot and had left the rougher bottles which were'to be exchanged with bottle dealers for wine bottles.
