GENERAL WAVELL

NARROW ESCAPE FROM DEATH. REPORTED BY JAPANESE. (Bv Telegraoh—Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, December 29. The Tokio radio reports from Bangkok that General Sir Archibald Wavell narrowly escaped death during an airraid. It adds that he escaped to a dug-out shelter while his plane was destroyed on the ground. The report, did not disclose the locality of the alleged incident.

A. German news agency report published yesterday said that General Wavell’s plane had only just landed in Rangoon on his return from Chungking when sirens announced a Japanese raid. General Wavell sheltered in a ditch and his plane was destroyed.
