POISON GAS

REPORTED PREPARATIONS BY NAZIS. USE ON BIG SCALE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, December 28. The Istanbul correspondent of the Associated Press of America says that Mr George Earle, United States Minister at Sofia, has arrived en route to the United States. He said: “I am afraid that the Germans are preparing for a big-scale use of poison gas. Germany’s fortunes are declining, but her death throes may be unprecedently violent.” Mr Earle reported that many Bulgarian soldiers on the former Yugoslav frontier had deserted and joined guerillas fighting the Germans. He added that even the police guarding the United States legation at Sofia were pro-Russian.
