Mrs J. Blackley, of Villa Street, Masterton, has received advice that her son, Able Seaman J. B. Blackley, is reported missing. Professor J. E. L. Cull will retire from the Chair of Civil Engineering at Canterbury, University College as from the end of next August.

I Yesterday afternoon Lady Newall attended a gathering at Christchurch of wives and mothers of prisoners of war, arranged by the Canterbury Red Cross Society. Mrs Mills, of 6 Hosking Place, Masterton, has received a cablegram from her husband, Gunner E. M. Mills, who is serving with the New Zealand forces in the Middle East, stating that he is safe and well. Mrs S. N. Thomas, 51 Villa Street, Masterton, has received advice that her son, Pte. John Eastwood, is safe and well in Libya, and that her other son, Pte. Ernest Eastwood, who was wounded, is progressing favourably. Word has been received of the death from wounds of Private Ben Clifford, of Te Awamutu. Deceased was the son of Mrs G. Clifford, of Bannister Street, Masterton, and was at one time a member of the staff of the W.F.C.A. The death occurred at his residence, Napier Terrace, early yesterday morning of Mr Cyril Oswald McNaught, Napier, after a short illness. Mr McNaught, who was born in 1895, took part in the campaign at Gallipoli in 1915, and was invalided home with severe wounds. He also suffered from effects of gas. In 1927 he established the business of Clausen’s Ltd. with Mr Leslie Rankin as his partner, and later took over the management of the business which he maintained till his death. The funeral of the late Mr T. U. Wellington took place in Masterton yesterday, the Rev H. S. Kings officiating at the chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service, Ltd., and at the graveside. There was a large and representative attendance of mourners. Among the many wreaths was one from the Riverside Golf Club. Messrs R. Payne and L. Larson’ (representing the Foresters’ Lodge), F. Candy, G. Wellington, T. C. Wellington and J. Wrigley were the pall-hearers.
