ON ENEMY IN LIBYA FROM BARDIA TO TRIPOLI. SHIPS & SHORE TARGETS DAMAGED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 12.5 p.m.) RUGBY, December 28. A R.A.F. Middle East communique states: “Strong forces of R.A.F. and Free French bombers attacked objectives within the Bardia perimeter yesterday. Hits were scored on pillboxes and gunnery defence positions, as well as on motor transport vehicles and barrack buildings, and fires broke out. “During Friday night, our bombers raided two merchant ships in the har-< hour of Zuara, on the coast of Tripolitania. A hit was obtained on one of the ships, which blew up with a violent explosion. Store dumps in the town were also bombed. The harbour at Tripoli was again attacked, bombs falling on ships in the port and large fires being started near the Spanish Fort. Our aircraft also machine-gunned enemy transport moving from Tripoli towards Homs.
“Further details are available of the raid on Tripoli on Wednesday night. A number of violent explosions took place on the Spanish Quay, while motor transport and military huts were machine-gunned. Bombs were also dropped on a group of enemy naval units north-west of the town, the results not being observed. “Enemy aircraft were active over the approaches to Malta yesterday, but were intercepted by our fighters, which shot down one Junkers 88. “From these and other operations one of our aircraft is missing, but the pilot is safe.” '
