NEW SITUATION
FOR THE DOMINIONS . & INDIA NEED OF INTENSIFIED EFFORT. STATEMENT BY SIR G. CAMPBELL. (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) . WASHINGTON, December 28. Sir Gerald Campbell, Director-Gen-eral of British Information Services, stated to the Press that the. situation in India and the Dominions now was very different from that of 1914, following upon Japan’s entry into the war. He explained that during the last war India and the Dominions were not jeopardised, while now the blow against Britain and the United States had brought things very close to. Australia, New Zealand and India. Not only India, but also Burma was menaced. He added that the Dominions and colonies so far had largely contributed to the war effort, but, following the extension of the war to the Pacific their efforts must be intensified. Sir Gerald Campbell said that British troops from India are fighting in the Russian Caucasus. Indian troops defending the Caucasian oilfields are said to be those prominent in the occupation of Iran and Iraq.
