BOY SCOUTS SUCCESSFUL CARD TOURNEY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The committee of the Carterton Boy Scouts held a very successful card tourney in the Band Room, when special'prizes were competed for, with the following results: Ladies, Mrs Jensen 1, Mrs Ticehurst 2, Mrs Miller 3. Special, Mrs C. Holland. Men, Mr G. Challis 1, Mr Wadsworth 2, Mr F. Jackson 3. Special, Mr Milton. Hay Crops Deteriorate. Hay crops that were cut some weeks ago and have not been harvested owing to the unfavourable weather are deteriorating as the result of the rain, and green grass is growing through them. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs D. Jackson, of Petone, are visitors to Carterton. The news of the death of Mr Donald Nicolson, which took place at the Masterton Public Hospital on Christmas Day, was received by his many- friends in Carterton with feelings of deep regret. Deceased was a well known figure here years ago when he lived with his parents at “Melverton,” Taratahi. There are many local residents who remember his achievements as an athlete and a footballer. Some of his friends who worked with him fifty-four years ago on the “Wairarapa Observer,” at that time owned by the late Mr Charles Gibbs Beckett, still live in Carterton.
Flight Officers Adair and Stent, who spent Christmas with their parents, left this morning by rail-car en route for Woodburn Aerodrome, Blenheim. Mi- and Mrs Sid Baillie, of Khandallah, are visitors to Carterton and are staying with Mr and Mrs C. Holland. Splendid Record. Tranquille Fairy Faforit, a pedigree Friesian owned by the Tranquille Farm, British Columbia, recently completed a yearly official record of 14,572 lb. milk and 6171 b. fat, with 4.23 per cent average test. Her sire, Colony Faforit Romeo, is the sire of C. A. Knutson’s (Dalefield) imported bull, Tranquille Posch Romeo. Snow on Ranges. The Tararua Ranges are again coated with snow, this being most unusuql at this period of the year. REGENT THEATRE TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME.
“Florian,” which will be shown tonight, is the story of a man, a girl and a royal white stallion, with Robert Young, Helen Gilbert and Irina Baronova. taking the leading roles. The management urge picture lovers not to miss this picture. (Approved for Universal Exhibition).
