NEW COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

LIEUTENANT-GENERAL SIR H. POWNALL. CHANGE MADE IN LAST MONTH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) has been advised that LieutenantGeneral Sir Henry Pownall has arrived in Singapore and has assumed the appointment of Commander-in-Chief in the Far East, in succession to Air Chief Marshal Sir Robert Brooke-Popham. Sir H. Pownall was appointed to this command in November, on vacating the post of Vice-Chief of the Imperial General Staff.
