The Germans on parts of the Leningrad front launched counter-attacks in an effort to regain lost ground, but were thrown back each time with heavy losses. A Finnish communique claims that the Finns beat off small-scale enemy attacks at two points on the Karelian Isthmus and also on the Svir front, in Karelia.
PLIGHT OF FINNS GROWING DAILY MORE DESPERATE. ACUTE FOOD SHORTAGE. (Received This Day, 1.0 p.m.) " ■ LONDON, December 26. Finland’s plight is growing daily more desperate as the Germans fab back before the advancing Russians. Messages from Stockholm describe the Finnish food shortage as being almost as acute as that in German-occupied territories. Grain reserves ar e nearly exhausted and townspeople and farmers alike are existing on a starvation diet. There is evidence of widespread disillusionment as a result of the changed war situation, but there is- no sign of public agitation for the ending of the fight against Russia.
