Recent photographs from France show that Marshal Petain’s automobile, when passing through a town where he was reported to have been received with marks of deep affection, is guarded by eight guards on motorcycles riding in very close formation, four on each side, with three others riding about twenty yards in front. The same photograph shows an unenthusiastic, sullen crowd behind a close line of soldiers.
