Montreal (Quebec).—Students of Mc r Gill University recently reached their goal of a mile of pennies—B2,ooo of them —to buy two Bren guns for the Canadian forces. Crossing the campus from the main gate to the arts building, about 400 yards, were four white lines with'a sign urging the students to “lay it on the line.” Those contributing 30 ox’ more pennies were entitled to wear a special red ribbon. Many professors added their pennies to the lines. A notable event on the final day of the drive was the appearance of a man who offered to contribute a cent for every inch of the longest broad jump as the result of a contest between the students present. The longest jump was 20 feet, so the stranger gave 240 pennies.
