EKETAHUNA

DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL BREAK-UP CEREMONY. ("Times-Age” Special.) At the break-up ceremony in connection with the Eketahuna District High School certificates and prizes were presented as follows: —Primary school leaving certificates: D. Utting, C. McAllister, C. Davie, J. McAnulty, V. Hardingham, A. Golder, K. Doney, B. Kelsall, L. Brown. J. Dawson, E. Evans, J. Powell. Swimming: Leaners’ certificates; J. Elmes, B. McAnulty, H. Ramsay, G. Darbyshire; 220yds, John Dawson, Doreen Utting; 880yds, Cora Davie; life saving, D. Utting, G. Dawson, K. Doney; C. Davie. Three special prizes, donated by Mr H. Smith, for willing boys were awarded to Alex Golder, Barry McAnulty, and lan Edwards.

Secondary Department. —The Tiritahi Prize, donated by the late Mr W. B. Matheson, for an essay on Citizenship was this year won by Allan Webb, with Isobel Waterreus second and Kelvin Edwards third.

Despite epidemics, the following pupils were absent less than five halfdays from school: Richard Webb, Margaret McManus, Katherine Lemberg, Richard Rogers.

An Enjoyable Gathering.

Children and active auxiliary and honorary members of the local Fire Brigade spent an enjoyable time at the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Tuesday night, when a visit was paid by Father Christmas. Several of the children entertained with songs and recitations. Father Christmas handed each child a gift from the well-laden tree. Opportunity was taken to present Mrs A. S. Carter with her life honorary medal. Reference was made to the splendid service Mrs Carter had rendered the brigade. Personal. Miss June MacLellan, formerly of Eketahuna, and now of Blenheim, has passed the junior government commercial examination, and also in four subjects in the Chamber of Commeice examination. She was awarded the prize for the most outstanding candidate in the latter examination.
