GAS PRODUCERS
MANUFACTURE PARTLY CONTROLLED
TO ENSURE EFFICIENCY & SERVICING. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Sullivan) has drawn attention to the fact that the manufacture of gas producers has for some time been a controlled industry under the Suoply Control Emergency Regulations. This control, the Minister said, related principally to two matters important in the public interest. The first was that of ensuring the efficiency performance of each type of gas producer manufactured. The second was that of ensuring the provision of proper servicing facilities to the public and adequate supplies of spare parts by each manufacturer. The consent of the Factory Controller was necessary before a person or firm could manufacture gas producer units for sale.
The Minister also stated that, following the new restrictions which had been imposed on the use of petrol, there was considerable activity in the gas producer field and it was desired that everyone who contemplated manufacturing gas producers should be aware that the manufacture was controlled to the degree mentioned, though not under the Industrial Efficiency Act.
